As a community, we have made a promise to our children - a big promise to provide a quality public education so all children may find their fullest future and fulfill it.
IDRA's new publication, Keeping the Promise - Putting Children First, features seven case studies that illustrate how IDRA promotes leading-edge research, policies, and practices that secure real solutions to school inequity and achieves results for students. The stories show our work in:
Providing actionable knowledge with community action data dashboards;
Building a structure for family engagement across Arkansas;
Addressing bias in STEM access in Nashville, Tennessee;
Sparking a network of Education CAFEs;
Preparing a new generation of teachers for today's classrooms;
Examining curriculum policy for college readiness; and
Sustaining a generation of valued youth.
In many cases, intergenerational leadership - asset-based partnership with families, students, and communities - leads the way. As a result, this work has powerfully affected millions of students' lives by dramatically raising educational opportunities for all children.

Dr. Bricio Vasquez to Advisory Committee on Implementation of Major New Texas School Finance Law
The Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath appointed IDRA's Education Data Scientist, Dr. Bricio Vasquez, to the Texas Compensatory Education Allotment Advisory Committee to help guide implementation of House Bill 3, the major school finance legislation passed earlier this year.The 17-member committee will advise the Texas Education Agency on rules to:

Establish other economic criteria to be considered in determining the allotment methodology using census block groups;
► Detail the method to count students who qualify for the allotment in a dropout recovery school or program or a residential treatment facility;
► Detail the method for properly counting students who are homeless within the meaning of "homeless children and youths" under 42 U.S.C. Section 11434a; and
► Determine the appropriate weight by which to adjust the basic allotment in determining the compensatory allotment for homeless students.
